Dear Parish Family Member(s):
Have you heard of Humanistic Judaism? There is a Congregation in New York City that I have heard advertised on National Public Radio. Jewish teenagers can have a secular Bar or Bat Mitzvah there. They have a secular Jewish KidSchool where “children learn a love of Jewish culture as well as the value of critical thinking in the pursuit of truth.” Nowhere on their website is there mention of God! Is not God’s Word in Scripture truth for both Jews and Christians alike?
And how many Catholics are cultural Catholics – especially at Christmastime? We love the trappings of the Season: the music, the festive gatherings, the food, the presents, the trees, the decorations and the bright lights, yet how many Catholics forget Jesus in the midst of it all? For how many people is Christmas a secular holiday and not a religious Holy Day?
Make Advent a special time of joy as you and your family prepare for Christmas. Pray the meditations contained The Little Blue Books that will be available the first weekend of Advent. Participate in the Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 14th.
Don’t forget to make the celebration of the Eucharist a key part of your Christmas Day! The Eucharist will be celebrated here at Our Lady of Perpetual Help three times on Christmas Eve and three times on Christmas Day.
Come to Church and sing beautiful Christmas Carols with your Parish Family. Allow your children to hear the Gospel accounts of the birth of Jesus. Help them to understand that if it hadn’t been for Jesus, there would be no Santa Claus, that if God hadn’t given the world His Son, we would not be giving and receiving gifts either.
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! The Lord be with your spirit today and everyday!
